Roatan has a host of excellent snorkelling sites and there’s plenty of variety too!  We offer 2–4 hour trips or all-day adventures and visit the best shallow reef locations.  Maybe you’d like to try a wreck snorkel, or some mangrove snorkelling or simply enjoy a variety of coral reefs within the Roatan marine park.   We provide tuition and guidance for people new to snorkelling and will gladly accompany you at each location if you prefer.
The ‘Snyg’ shipwreck, located close to Pristine Bay, was ‘sunk’ during a storm in 1899.  It’s one of our favourite snorkelling locations because of the healthy shallow reef around and attached to the remains of the vessel.  The 100ft long, old steamer shipwreck,  actually pokes through the surface in places and is mostly only a few feet below your mask and snorkel.  We typically have incredible visibility in this lagoon environment to watch the resident trumpetfish, trunkfish, angels, flamingo tongues (the mollusc not the pink bird!) grunts and damselfish, not to mention all the sea rods and other hard and soft corals abundant to the area.
The Big Bight lagoon, located just North of the shipwreck is another favourite of ours.  Here we have a stunning, shallow, sandy lagoon that collides with a deep-water channel, this allows nutrient rich water to enter and feed the wealth of soft corals lining the lagoon.  A great place to see stingrays and eagle rays feeding in the sand, conch and sea stars and tons of juvenile fish and critters amongst the coral.  The sand lagoon is only 8ft deep and the super healthy mass of soft corals almost break the surface.
Closer to home, Flowers Bay, West Bay, West End & Sandy Bay have any number of shallow dive/snorkel buoys to tie up to and explore.  Snorkelling in the Roatan marine park protected areas means we have a great chance to sea hawksbill and green turtles as well as a huge variety of fish life.  In some areas where a mild surface current is present you can ‘drift snorkel’ with the boat quietly following, this is especially awesome when snorkelling around Roatan’s Western tip.
For something different we offer mangrove snorkelling locations for those interested in seeing where the juvenile fish are hanging out.  This part of Roatan’s reef eco-system provides filtration, protection to the juveniles before they graduate to the reef and can be remarkably full of activity.
Our snorkelling safaris are flexible to your location, time frame and experience.  We offer customized itineraries and variable rates, contact us to schedule the perfect trip for your group.
Quality masks, snorkels and fins are provided.  We have all sizes of fins and a variety of different masks to fit different faces!  Life-jackets and other flotation devices are always onboard and recommended.  A surface marker buoy is mandatory within the Roatan marine park and is also included.
Purified water, soft beverages, fresh fruit and snacks are standard on all trips, for full day trips we offer picnic lunch on board or a favourite, on the water, restaurant stop.
